Morton House Museum seeks a part-time executive director to carry out its mission of being “The Home of Benton Harbor History.” The Morton House, built in 1849, is the oldest existing house in Benton Harbor and, for almost 50 years, has been a house museum telling the story of the pioneering Morton family. The Museum is undergoing a transition to use the house and the Morton family to tell the compelling story of the city of Benton Harbor.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, creative individual, preferably with non-profit experience, who is motivated and works well on their own. Major responsibilities include:
• General management of organization’s business including; mail, working with bookkeeper and accountant, answering phone messages, scheduling events, updating Web site.
• Marketing, publicity, promotions and newsletters.
• Development and implementation of programs and events
• Grant writing and help with fundraising.
• Coordinating volunteers with events, membership and volunteer needs
• Attendance at all Morton House events and Board meetings.
The position is for approx. 20 hours a week at $1,000 per month year around, although the Morton House itself is closed from December- April.
